Direct answer

Use crusher run when the base must compact. Use clean stone when water must pass through.

Crusher run contains fines that bind under compaction. #57, #34 and #89 are cleaner, more open-graded stones. Riprap is much larger and fits erosion-control work rather than a finished walking surface.

Driveway and parking material

Crusher run

Best suited to compactable base layers, construction access and areas where the material should lock together.

$50–$70 per ton

Clean stone

Useful when drainage matters or when a cleaner stone appearance is preferred. It does not compact like crusher run.

#57 / #34: $65–$85 per ton

Drainage and erosion

#57 stone is commonly used around drainage systems and in open-draining areas. Type 3 riprap is used where larger stone is needed to resist moving water and stabilize slopes or channels. Material choice should follow the drainage or erosion-control design.

How much do you need?

Measure length, width and depth. The calculator converts that volume into cubic yards and estimated tons. Add an allowance where compaction, settlement or irregular edges are expected.

Quick answers

Asked before every trip.

What is the difference between crusher run and #57 stone?

Crusher run (GAB) contains fines and compacts into a dense, locked base, which is why it is the usual driveway and pad starting point. #57 is clean stone that stays loose and drains well, which suits French drains, construction access and top dressing.

How many tons of stone are in one truck trip?

One trip on a tandem dump truck can carry up to roughly 18 tons of dense stone, but the actual payload depends on the material, moisture, the truck used and legal route limits. Treat 18 tons as a planning maximum, not a promise.

Is delivery included in the per-ton stone prices?

No. The listed figures are material-only planning ranges. Delivery, spreading, site work and unusual access are quoted separately by the provider that accepts the request.

Request / 01

Price the material. Then price the trip.

Send the project, ZIP code and access details. An available provider can confirm the material price, delivery fee and schedule.

Normal minimum: approximately one full tandem-truck trip. Smaller orders may not be economical.

Submitting a request does not schedule service. The accepting provider confirms the quote, terms, truck capacity, receiving or disposal arrangements, and availability.
