Direct answer
Asphalt millings are recycled pavement—not fresh hot-mix asphalt.
They can create a practical driveway or parking surface when placed over a suitable base, spread to the planned depth and compacted correctly. A delivered pile alone does not become a finished surface.
Build the base
Correct soft areas, drainage and grade before millings arrive.
Spread evenly
Plan equipment and labor before the delivery is tipped.
Lock the surface
Compaction and warm conditions can help particles bind.
Pricing
The planning material range is $400–$525 per load. Delivery, spreading, grading and compaction are separate unless a written quote says otherwise.
Millings versus crusher run
Crusher run is a compactable aggregate base. Millings are a recycled asphalt surface material. Some projects use a stable aggregate base beneath the millings rather than treating the two materials as substitutes.
Before ordering
- Confirm the driveway dimensions and proposed depth.
- Identify soft spots and drainage problems.
- Arrange spreading and compaction equipment.
- Confirm tandem-truck access and dump location.
